PokerStars

Played 73 hands in two sessions.

$5NL – 28 Hands -$5.12
$10NL – 45 Hands $7.30

My first shot at $10NL. I wanted to stick my nose in and see how it was. Clearly I didn’t do badly. :) Cooked off another stack at $5NL, but I don’t think the hand had any huge errors, I just ran into a better hand. Granted I didn’t give the villain much credit and he turned out to be a better player than I’m used to at $5NL.

$10NL was fun. Players were soft, but not too passive or too aggressive. Granted my sample size is so small as to be insignificant, but the player skill levels doesn’t seem to increase much $5NL to $10NL except the players seem to take the game a little more seriously.

Not a great day. Donked off my stack on the last hand I played. Guess I got careless as I was getting ready to shut down and grab a bite to eat. QQ UTG. It was clear I was beaten on the flop when I got check raised. This was actually the first time this has happened to me at this level and I guess I totally missed it. I should have been more careful. He clearly had a hand, and it was clearly K something, and I was beat. For some reason I couldn’t lay down my queens. Oh well, live and learn.

In hindsight I should have left this table earlier. It was extremely passive and very little action. Any aggressive raises were immediately folded to. I suspect two of the other players I was with were 2+2ers as they seemed decent. When he went all-in I should have know better too. I had two excellent places to buy a clue and I missed them.

Another lesson was table selection. I should have left this table long before this hand came along. It was VERY passive, with at least one or two good players there. Very little money to be made. I should have just left and moved to another table.

Whee another winning day. Not a huge number of hands, but I got bored after an hour of micro stakes grinding. Its pretty much ABC poker. Fold the crap, raise up the good stuff. No tricks, no bluffs, just solid poker. Did well early on, then got cold decked and just folded a lot of hands. Started to loose focus, so it is time to quit.

First table I played at I only got in like 9 hands and then it fell apart, typical for a weekend and for these micro stakes. Tables don’t seem to last long. Second table was much better. Got someones stack with this hand:

Stack sizes:
UTG: $2.22
CO: $5.04
Button: $3.55
SB: $5.06
Hero: $4.96

Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is BB with Q♥ A♥
UTG calls, CO folds, Button calls, SB calls, Hero raises to $0.15, UTG calls, 2 folds.

Flop: 4♣ T♥ 6♥ ($0.34, 2 players)
Hero bets $0.25, UTG raises to $0.5, Hero calls.

Turn: 5♠ ($1.34, 2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.4, Hero calls.

River: J♥ ($2.14, 2 players)
Hero checks, UTG is all-in $1.17, Hero calls.

Results:
Final pot: $4.48
Hero showed Qh Ah
UTG showed 3c 3s

Somewhat of a risky raise from the BB. My standard raise is 4xBB+1/limper. However I was going to have to play this out of position on the flop so my hope was to take it down right here. UTG called me.

Flop came and put me on a flush draw. I c-bet since was was the pre-flop raiser and really wanted to take this down. What I accomplished was getting re-raised. It was a min-raise. I’m getting a little better than 4 to 1 pot odds, and my draw is about 4 to 1 to come in, I call.

Turn card was a blank, and he fired a bet…but it was horrible. 1/3 of the pot? I’m still getting better than 4 to 1 to draw, same as the flop. So I call.

River is my miracle card; my flush comes in. I also got the remainder of his stack. I did a check figuring he’d bet into me and I’d raise him up. He shoved instead, easy call. Yeah I kind of sucked out on him, but the guy was giving me EXACTLY the pot odds I needed to call the whole way. If he had pounded out a $1 bet on the turn I probably would have folded. As it was, his weak betting allowed me to continue playing and hit my flush.

Haven’t been playing a lot the last few days. Didn’t play a lot this weekend either, but logged a few hands and a nice win.

Its the weekend so play is crazy insane. Table fell apart quickly too, standard for the weekend especially after 10pm PST. Oh well more during the week I suppose.

Going to try and update my blog with a semi-daily update of my session results. Will see how this helps, if at all.
